Students from leading institutions like UCL are increasingly launching startups based on their research, with curiosity and a sense of adventure.
We are here to support you on what could be a fascinating journey. You can apply to Conception X regardless of how early stage your thinking is.
We offer training sessions and workshops to sharpen your business skills. We also help you get investment-ready and make simple introductions to investors.
How it works.
Apply to join the upcoming cohort via the link. We will give you feedback about your application soon after the deadline (see timeline on the front page). If eligible, you will be invited to join the Conception X cohort.
We will meet to discuss how the programs may support your ideas, the level of training you need, and what advisors, mentors, and potential co-founders you need to build or improve your MVP. You will always receive impartial advice from us.
Your Journey Begins.
You will start working on your startup. You will join fellow student entrepreneurs in training and support activities until you become investment-ready. The journey can last from 6 months to a year.
Eligibility & Expectations
The fine print.
Who can Apply?
We are currently accepting applications from UCL Engineering PhD students, but we will make some exceptions from MScs and PhDs from other departments if the work has a strong technical component (e.g. AI, Blockchain).
Will I be able to do this alongside my course?
The project needs to be aligned with the student’s research and not jeopardise the completion of the PhD. We will not be placing demands on the amount of time you should be working on your startup, but refer to point 3.
Do I have to commit a specific duration each day?
We expect that you will be available for group training sessions, which we set together based on your schedules. Beyond that, this is your startup, and we are here to support you to grow it and offer you impartial advice at all times.
